There's a flicker in the distance where a single candle glows

Evidently I'm in a "purging" phase. No, not in the GI sense. In the "get this stuff OUT of my house" sense. I started a while back with the kitchen, and I've almost got it where I want it. This week's project has been the closets and the shoes. I've got several pair of shoes that I just stare at but haven't worn in eons. I took a few of them to Crossroads Thrift Store (the less-dressy ones) then took the dressier ones- and some of my suits that I just don't wear anymore- to Junior League for their Women helping Women project. I figure it's a win-win since I get rid of things that are serving no purpose here and someone who can use them will put them to good use. Anyway, now I just have to do the seasonal closet rotation of summer stuff to the study and fall/ winter stuff to my closet. Mom, STOP LAUGHING! Just remember that my wardrobe neuroticism is hard-wiring. And you would miss it if it changed.

Otherwise, I had another totally unstructured day with the kitties that was really, really nice. In opposition to my purging of things in the house, I've been news and current affairs binging since I barely managed to stay in the loop while I was on service (Ike news...that was all I tended to). I got up sometime between 8 and 9, worked out for just over an hour with my personal trainer (hint: he's feline, and his photo appears often in this blog), the sort-of frittered the day. I'm just taking it as a nice treat knowing that there's plenty to do when I get back to work on Friday. Plenty. I've not made an official decision on tomorrow being a go-to-the-mountains day or an at-home day again. I have plenty of stuff I've put off here that staying down wouldn't be a bad deal but I really would like to go look at pretty aspen leaves. My compromise may involve heading up one of the Cottonwood canyons in the afternoon. We'll see. You'll know if I go by photos :)

Happiness/ Gratitude List, 1 October 2008 Edition:
  1. The Grumpy Princess is next to me curled up in a fashion that makes me wonder about her bone structure- or lack thereof. And she's purring really loudly. She's a good girl, in spite of her Grumpy status.
  2. Maggie Moo Ice Cream. Specifically the Better Batter. I know, it's not on my usual indulgence list. But it was tasty with a brownie mixed in!
  3. I got the itinerary for the Bordeaux cycling trip today in an email. I'm even more excited now. Sadly, I will not be able to ship wine back to myself thanks to our progressive laws here in Utah; maybe that's a source of $ savings anyway while I'm there.
  4. Having one more unstructured day to enjoy tomorrow. I've got an appointment in the afternoon, but other than that it's all mine!
  5. Yet more encouragement from me for YOU to check out the new Wade Bowen album. It's on CMT as a listening party if you want to preview. The songwriting is amazing. Truly. He just gets better and better.
