For those of you who have read this blog for any length of time, you're aware I'm a huge fan of Brene Brown.
Brene posted a "16 things about me" as her blog entry yesterday, then tagged all of her readers who blog.
So, it's my turn, right?
- I first told my Mom that I was going to be a surgeon when I was two-ish years old. Of course, I also told her that she was going to live behind me so I could pass my kids over the fence to her when I was leaving for work. I guess it could still happen....maybe.
- I can't tell you the last time I watched TV, but there is always music on in my house (unless I'm sleeping).
- I have continuously been owned by at least one cat since 1980. Most often it's been two.
- My back-up plan if I didn't get into medical school was to go to divinity school. (Interesting aside: My grad school boyfriend DID end up in divinity school and is a Methodist minister in West Texas.)
- I rely on my intuition. A lot. To do so has been a long lesson to learn, but I've also learned it is seldom wrong.
- All rumors and impressions to the contrary, I'm not a native Texan. I'm a native Floridian. We moved to Texas when I was 18 months old.
- My two major "fashion" indulgences? Shoes and lingerie. I have a very, very weak spot for both. I think it's my rebellion as a girl in a very male-dominated work world.
- I love to do crosswords, especially the Sunday New York Times puzzle. In pen.
- I make my bed every morning- unless one of the cats precludes my doing so.
- My version of comfort food is Tex-Mex chicken enchiladas, best washed down with a margarita on the rocks, no salt.
- I took piano from kindergarten until I left for college. I sang in choir from sometime in elementary school on, and I did take voice for a couple of years. First soprano, for those who haven't heard me sing.
- I don't deal with petty meanness well. Even at the age of 40 it will drive me to tears because I just can't see the point.
- I have two rings that I always, always wear unless I'm operating. One is my Aggie ring, and I'm proud of the flat sides it has earned over the last 20 years (sheesh- has it been that long?!?). The other is my great-grandmother's three-diamond anniversary ring.
- My favorite book of all time is Willie Morris' North Toward Home. It's a must read for any southerner or Texan who has moved away from "home."
- I actually don't mind shoveling snow. There's something about the rhythm that I can get into and being outdoors that makes it cathartic.
- If I'm staying away from home, I'm either at a very, very nice hotel or in a tent in the wilderness. There's no middle ground in my world.
And to continue with Brene's theme, if you blog please share 16 things that are uniquely you. I would love to learn them!
