Stars of night turned deep to dust

TGI.....Friday. Yep, it's that time of the week.

Today I am trusting that I will have 20 more days that were as pleasant and low-stress as today was. I am unduly happy to be back on clinical service right now, primarily because research has been such a grind lately.

Today I am grateful for my menagerie. As I sit here, Belle! is in the next room (probably trying to destroy something), Tucker is across from me on the kitchen island, and Kita is to my left side sleeping on the floor. I honestly couldn't ask for a more wonderful group of animals to be my family.

Today I am inspired by Mary Oliver's poetry. I know, I've probably mentioned her as an inspiration before. I treasure her descriptions of the natural world, as well as how she ties the natural world to the world of the heart. As example:

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting--
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.
