I found out about this interesting effort thanks to Brene Brown and her Ordinary Courage blog- it's called Reverb10 and it's got some great, non-traditional prompts for reflecting on where you've been and where you're headed. I'm picking up some of the threads from the first 12 days just because, as usual, I'm running late. Here's the December 3 prompt: Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors). (Ali Edwards)
This required amazingly little thought for me; usually this is the sort of question I would mull over for at least a few minutes if not a few hours. When you consider the amazing, full-of-wonder year that I've had, it should have been a challenge. There were many, many great moments, but the one that comes to me immediately was during the grand Turkey adventure.
It was sitting on the restaurant deck at the Marmara Bodrum, drinking wine and enjoying grilled Halloumi and balsamic vegetables as I watched the sun set over the harbor and eavesdropped on pieces of the French couple's conversation that was occurring at the adjacent table. I had spent the day on a boat that I chartered, floating around the Aegean near Bodrum, taking periodic breaks to swim and lots of naps in the sun (with my Factor 60, of course). I was simply in the most relaxed, blissed-out place that I've been in ages. Here's a sample of the view:
