May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung

Confession:  I'm still spinning from the last three weeks.  On balance, it's been good.  Very good.  Just exhausting, wearying-to-the-bone, and fast-paced.  But very, very rewarding at the end of it all.

Today I am trusting that this week I'll manage to dig out from my personal avalanche of stuff I didn't get done while I was busy with my patients.  And that I'll get some rest.  I'm mostly looking forward to the rest, especially since I'll be resting somewhere warm.

Today I am grateful for too many "little" things to mention.  If I were to make a list, I would be afraid of leaving something out.  So let's just leave it at year, I am grateful.  Wildly, blissfully grateful.

Today I am inspired by several different emails and notes that I got from students and residents this week for a variety of reasons- as well as by what students told me about the current reputation of the surgery clerkship (it's now loved, not feared).  It's a reminder to me that all of that extra stuff that I do, the stuff that complicates my life sometimes, is worth every bit of the effort- and it motivates me to keep trying to change the world, one person and one day at a time.  I'm getting comfortable in my skin as Doña Quixote.

Now listening:  Bob Dylan "Forever Young" (Planet Waves is 39 years old this week.  Enjoy.)
